1999 Chevy Tahoe LS

Purchased May 29, 2024

Description

This 1999 Chevy Tahoe LS was purchased from a Facebook Marketplace seller in Memphis, TN. I flew down to Memphis, test drove it, bought it and drove it home all in one day.

Known History

It was originally purchased from a Chevrolet dealer in Memphis and drove 2+ years or 20,000 miles by the first owner. The second owner purchased it used from the same dealer. They drove it for another 23 years and put on another 168,000 miles. I purchased it in May 2024 from the second owner with 189,000 miles on it. It spent most of this life in the Memphis area, and had several family trips, all in the South.

Condition

You can see from the photos that this Tahoe was really taken good care of. It was garage kept, well maintained by the engineer owner, and protected. There are no carpet stains, paint blemishes, ot mechanical issues. There are no sign of rust in the body or rocker panels. The frame has surface rust only. Everything works: AC, dashboard lights and gauges, heating, switches, etc.

The engine is a 5.7L, small-block Chevy Vortec with the 4L60E transmission. It also has a Hypertech Performance Tune installed, which increases horsepower, and improved shifting.

  • Remove ABS system

June 2024 Updates

I’ve started chipping away at the task list this month.

  • Upgraded front headlight bulbs to LEDs
  • Upgraded headlight high beams with the Chevy OBS relay mod
  • I upgraded the front brake calipers to SSBC double-piston, billet units.
  • Upgraded the front rotors to slotted and drilled ones
  • I removed the ABS system valve body, and installed a new Raybestos Master Cylinder from a later model Yukon/Tahoe, plus a disc front / drum rear proportioning valve for Chevy trucks.
  • I replaced the rear wheel cylinders as one was leaking brake fluid
  • I bench bled the master cylinder and then the entire brake system. The brakes are now very firm and responsive
  • I replaced the shocks with Belltech Street Performers
  • I purchased 2 American Racing Torq-Thrust, 18x8s, to go with 2 I already own.
  • I purchased a Black Bear Performance tune for the original PCM. This replaces the Hypertech tune with a more modern one. There is noticeably more power and torque and the shifting is more positive at better shift points.

The Task List now looks like this:

  • Install new Belltech front and rear anti-sway bars
  • Purchase 4 BF Goodrich Trail-Terrain T/A – 255/55R18 109H XL BSW tires and mount on the 18×8 American Mags
  • Take the Tahoe to a local shop called Madison Auto Rustproofing and have it undercoated and rustproofed with NHOU materials
